Does Your eBook Need Its Own ISBN? Print E-mail

barcode_icon1The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a 13-digit number that uniquely identifies books and book-like products. Each number identifies a unique edition of a publication, from one specific publisher. It is claimed this numbering system allows for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors.
ISBNs are assigned by ISBN group agencies in 166 countries, coordinated by the International ISBN Agency in London
. The Australian ISBN Agency assigns ISBNs in Australia exclusively

The ISBN is a mandatory sales tool if you intend to make your print book available in bookstores, as it provides the basis for identifying books in all industry-wide systems. Bookstores, wholesalers, and distributors keep track of books solely by their ISBNs.
